Northwest Cascades Chapter #154 - Burlington, Washington

President's Page...

2010 - Hello from John G, your chapter President.

Let’s ride. Yes, that’s what we all want to do. No matter what make or model motorcycle you have, you are welcome to join us. Our Chapter members will be developing our 2010 ride and event schedule during our March 6 meeting. Our Home page will always show our very next event. The Chapter Schedule page will show events and rides for our chapter. You can adjust the view and even download the whole schedule. For even more ride opportunities, check the Area Schedule page. Show up with an empty bladder and a full tank. Let’s ride.

We believe in safety while riding as a group. It seems simple, but there are many situations that come up. I urge you to review our Guide to Group Riding on the Safety Corner page. We are very serious about the safety of the group plus every member of the group. We also understand that group riding is not for everyone. So, read the Guide, familiarize yourself with our group riding hand signals and join us. Let’s ride.

We have rides for a few hours, all afternoon, all day, overnight and multi day durations. We even encourage participants to join the longer rides for any portion that they have an interest in. If you can’t spend 4 days to ride to Prosser, WA for the Northwest Regional STAR-BQ event, you are welcome to ride with us for any part of the trip. Let’s ride.

We are a family friendly group too. Bring your spouse and/or kids. Alcohol is not permitted during any of our rides. Stop by Skagit PowerSports for one of our BBQ sessions to meet some of the members. Following the BBQ (about 2 PM) you can join us for a short local ride to see if group riding is for you. Let’s ride.

For 2010 we will also have a collection of fund raising events. I am coordinating with the American Cancer Society for our June 12 event, “Bike to Battle Cancer”. We will ride to nearby hospital cancer care facilities for media coverage and donate all funds collected to the ACS. We will host the 3rd Annual Jim Schermerhorn Poker Run to raise money for Jim’s surviving family. All funds collected during our BBQ sessions at Skagit PowerSports will be donated to the STAR Family Foundation and Feed the Children charities. Our Ladies of STAR representative, Laurie is planning a Sweethearts Dance in February plus some fund raiser car wash events for March and April.

To our families, friends and co-workers, THANK YOU! We are obsessed with our motorcycles and our STAR Chapter. We sure appreciate your never ending willingness to allow us to continue our obsession; especially when we ramble on about the rides, the people and the great times that we have all shared.

If you are not a member of the Northwest Cascades STAR Chapter #154, I hope this message conveys why we enjoy our membership so much.

Let’s Ride!

2009 - Hello from John G, your chapter President.

I’m ready for a jam packed year of fun and riding with the members of Northwest Cascades, STAR Chapter #154. We just built our ride and event schedule for 2009. Each month has an assortment of rides to temp you. Some are just an afternoon, some are all day and some are overnight trips. If you are looking for a safe and friendly group to ride with, you may want to read on. Zippo, our Web Master, has updated our Chapter Schedule page so that you can scroll through it or download and print the whole schedule.

Check out our photos on the Members page and on the Our Bikes page. Go to Event Photos to see what we do for fun. Sure we like to ride, but we also raise funds for our favorite charities with events like the Second Annual Jim Schermerhorn Poker Run. We support the other STAR chapters in the Puget Sound area by joining them for their poker runs. One event you will not want to miss is the Multi Chapter Ride. We will increase our number of bikes as we ride to meet up with six other chapters. In 2008 we enjoyed a breakfast social with our neighboring chapter from British Columbia. After breakfast we entered Anacortes for the Oyster Run activities with forty two bikes.

You wanted more rides. Check the Area Schedule page to see even more events.

Our monthly meetings are held on the first Saturday of each month. Each meeting is followed by a planned ride from April to October. Check the Meetings page for the whole scoop.

A great way to see what we are all about is to stop by for a FREE burger or hot dog during one of our BBQ Saturdays. Meet us at our sponsoring dealership, Skagit PowerSports on Saturday April 18, May 30, June 27, July 11, August 22 or September 26. Have lunch. Pick up some stuff for your bike. Join us for a short ride once the BBQ concludes.

To our families, friends and co-workers, THANK YOU! We are obsessed with our motorcycles and our STAR Chapter. We sure appreciate your never ending willingness to allow us to continue our obsession; especially when we ramble on about the rides, the people and the great times that we have all shared.

2008 - Hello from John G, your chapter President.

During the year of 2008 our chapter enjoyed many events while we acquired some new faces. We shared our time with each other and worked side by side while having a great time.  Those great moments were made possible by many individuals coming together to form our chapter.

To all members of STAR Chapter #154, THANK YOU! Your participation, friendship, energy and enthusiasm helped our chapter to continue to move forward during 2008. We accomplished many things that I want to acknowledge here.  We added 26 new names to our member roster.  We stabilized our monthly meeting day, time and location.  We organized and completed the First Annual Jim Schermerhorn Poker Ride in honor of our fallen member.  We collected over $600 that was donated to Jim’s family. We raised $670 for STAR Family Foundation.  We raised $670 for Feed the Children.  We organized and completed our first ever Progressive Dinner Ride.  We operated the BBQ at Skagit PowerSports each month from April through September.  We scheduled and completed more than 15 chapter sponsored rides.  We supported the Monroe #428 chapter by signing their charter and attending their first ever Poker Ride.  We hooked up with British Columbia Chapter #5103 for a terrific BBQ, then Breakfast and 40 bike strong cruise into Anacortes for the Oyster Run.

To our wonderful sponsors, Bill and Edie Cameron of Skagit PowerSports, THANK YOU!  We had a fabulous time operating the BBQ at the Skagit PowerSports Open House in April.  Plus we sure appreciate your support and contributions that make the monthly BBQs possible.  Thank you so much for your generous donations of prizes that were given away at the Jim Schermerhorn Poker Ride.  Thank you for supplying all of the BBQ food plus the public announcement system for the event. Thank you hosting the AzzFire 400 ride to Leavenworth and the Monkey Butt ride to Winthrop.  Your generosity is legendary around the Puget Sound area.  We are so very proud to have Skagit PowerSports as our dealership sponsor.

To our checkpoint sponsors on the Jim Schermerhorn Poker Ride, THANK YOU!  We really appreciated your generosity to host the check points plus your donation of prizes that were given away.  Thank you to Scooter Stuff, Cycle Barn of Smokey Point and Quil Ceda Leather.

To our families, friends and co-workers, THANK YOU!  We are obsessed with our motorcycles and our STAR Chapter.  We sure appreciate your never ending willingness to allow us to continue our obsession; especially when we ramble on about the rides, the people and the great times that we have all shared.
