On Saturday, October 1, 2011 STAR Chapter #154 (Northwest Cascades) and Skagit PowerSports donated $1000 to Neighbors In Need, the food bank for Mount Vernon. The funds for the donation resulted from BBQs held at Skagit PowerSports plus Chapter #154 monthly meeting donations collected over the last 12 months. Skagit PowerSports provides the food and supplies for the monthly BBQ that runs from April to September. Members of Chapter #154 help by setting up, cooking and serving the food. Each month the BBQ fund raiser brings in donations for about 80 burgers and 80 hot dogs. Chapter #154 also donates bottled water and soft drinks that are sold at the BBQ. During each of the STAR Chapter #154 monthly meetings 50/50 tickets are sold to members for $1 each. The winning ticket is entitled to half of the money from the ticket sales while the other half is saved for the final donation. Sometimes the winning member donates their money back to the chapter so it can be included in the final donation. We are pleased to have participated in such a worthy cause. Gil Gilmor of Neighbors In Need indicated that he would turn our donation into 7000 pounds of food which equals a lot of holiday meals. |
