Highway 9 and Camano Island Loop It was a nice day clear day with a definite chill in the air. When Steve and I arrived at Skagit Powersports we were surprised to see nine bikes lined up and ready to go. Riding today would be me, Steve, DJ, Roy, Robert, Laurie, Lyle, Patrick, and Jim. We left SP about 11:30 and caught Highway 9 in Sedro-Woolley. We had a miscommunication in Big Lake about when to make a gas stop for Lyle and got split up for a bit. We were a bit rusty in our group riding but this was our "back in the saddle" ride and we were a bit chilled. We got our skills tuned up as we made progress. After a pit stop near Stanwood we crossed into Camano Island and took the southern route. Our plan today was to ride the perimeter of Camano Island in a clockwise direction. Our next stop was Camano Island State Park. Parking in formation was looking great until Lyle backed up too far and started rolling backward off the pavement down a slope. Lenny and Roy helped him get back up the slope tire spinning in the wet grass and mud all the way. Lenny's chaps were covered with mud much to the amusement of Steve. It's all in fun right? Most of us had curbstones to bump into but it just so happened that Lyle didn't. We got a few pictures and answered questions from onlookers about our group. Roy handed out a few chapter "business" cards. Exiting the park we finished our loop of the island and stopped in Stanwood for a late lunch. The restaurant was a Pizza and Pasta place and did a great job getting us seated and fed. (Besides the waitresses were very attractive and friendly!) Mounting back up we proceeded up the Pioneer Highway to Conway. Here we said goodbye to Roy and Patrick. Continuing on, we passed a few fields of Snow Geese near LaConner and stopped near the Farmhouse Restaurant to say goodbye to Robert and Laurie. In Anacortes DJ and Jim kept going while Steve and I headed for Whidbey Island. Overall it was a great day and a lot of fun! We hope you enjoy some of the images below. |
